READERS are LEADERS!
Accelerated Reader ...
We are traveling the globe as we read.
What Is Accelerated Reader (AR), you ask? AR is a computer program that helps teachers manage and monitor children’s independent reading practice. Your child picks a book at his or her own level and of their own personal interest and reads at his or her own pace. When finished, your child takes a short quiz on the computer. Passing the quiz indicates that your child understood what was read. AR gives the students and teacher feedback based on the quiz results, which can then be used to help your child set goals and direct ongoing reading practice.
What can you do at home to help, you ask? Ask your child what book they are currently reading in class and at home to reach their AR goal. Discuss the book with them as they read. During their nightly reading, take turns reading the books. Children love to be read to and it's a wonderful practice for them to hear a fluent and expressive reader! Unlike Digital ReadWorks, children will only be reading at home. Children will not be able to access the quizzes from home. These will be taken at school once your child completes their book and shares that they are ready. You can however help your child to locate books that have an AR quiz by clicking the "AR BOOK FINDER" button above.
I am ENCOURAGING my students to read NIGHTLY for at least 15 minutes and be ready to take at least 1 AR quiz weekly. STUDENTS WILL EARN a process grade for completion of the AR reading /quizzes (at least 1 AR quiz taken within a 2 week time frame). This grade will be collected every 2 weeks.
