WHY? *Homework reinforces skills, concepts and information learned in class. *Homework prepares students for upcoming class topics. *Homework teaches students to work independently and develop self-discipline. *Homework encourages students to take initiative and responsibility for completing a task. *Homework allows parents to have an active role in their child's education and helps them to evaluate their child's progress. Research has consistently shown that parental involvement in a child's learning is a key factor in that child's achievement in school.
WHEN? Your child's homework will be written in their agenda book each day. Homework can be expected Monday - Thursday most weeks.
WHAT? Homework in ELA will be assigned. Your child will be given their homework at the beginning of the phonics unit and will be due on the date noted on the homework paper.
It is RECOMMENDED that students read for at least 15 minutes every night. Read out loud to a family member, friend, or even a pet. Read silently to yourself. READ, READ, READ!
Your child is also encouraged to practice phonics and math skills on sites like Spelling City, DreamBox and Xtra Math. You and your child will be given directions to be able to access these sites for additional practice.
We will also have occasional projects that necessitate family involvement. These will be noted in your student's agenda book and accompanied by a clear description of the project and due date. PLEASE continue to check the agenda book DAILY for notes from class, important information, and discussion suggestions.
THANK YOU in advance for your support with homework!
